Emma McGrath is a ceramic artist from Western New York and a recent BFA graduate from SUNY New Paltz who explores memory, vulnerability, and personal history through clay—introduced to ceramics through functional pottery before expanding into emotionally charged sculptural work. Her recent series, Oh, What They’ve Heard, inspired by the hardships and chaos of her parents’ divorce, features child-sized ceramic furniture as physical manifestations of fragmented memories. Influenced by artists Kourtney Stone, Lauren Kalman, and Pattie Chalmers, Emma embraces clay’s tactile and metaphorical qualities to enact memory. She is an aspiring educator who continues to create work that invites reflection on the objects shaping our lives.
